Polio is a contagious, historically devastating disease that
was eliminated from the Western hemisphere in the second half of the
20th century. Although polio has plagued humans since ancient times, its most
extensive outbreak occurred in the first half of the 1900s before the vaccination created by Jonas Salk became
widely available in 1955.
HOW CAN WE HELP AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE??
There are many ways you and I can help Polio
Children in their efforts to improve the lives of poor, physically handicapped
children. In addition to donating money, there are many opportunities for you to make a difference
through your time, expertise and creativity. You will experience first-hand the
joy of giving a physically-disabled child hope and dignity with a chance to be
self-sufficient in adult life. You will gain personal satisfaction knowing that
you have made a difference not only in the lives of these children but in those
of their families and their communities as well.
WHAT IS THE PROGRESS???
Global efforts have delivered incredible
progress: immunizing more than 2 billion children and saving more than 5
million children from life-long paralysis or death. In January, the world
reached a remarkable milestone in the fight to eradicate polio - 12 months
without a case of polio in India
for the first time in history!!!!
HAVE FAITH,
MAKE A DIFFERENCE,
ITS NOT TOO LATE!!!
